IIMB selection process

PGP Admission Process for IIMB Batch of 2011

Selection Criteria for Shortlist for PI process. Total 65 marks are alloted in the following manner:
1. CAT -20
2. 10th board=15
3. 12th board=10
4. Bachelors= 15
5. Work ex or Professional Course(CA/ICWA/ACS ) - 5

PI process: Total 35 marks are alloted to this stage with 15 marks for the Essay/Note and 20 for the interview. Since the pre-PI process marks of candidates are very close due to the flawed methodology used for CAT standardisation, the PI process plays a very integral part.

1. note content score (weight=7.5),
2. note style score (weight=7.5),
3. the personal interview score (weight=20),
4. Work-ex review:work experience score will be multiplied by the quality of experience score on a 5 point scale (0 – 0.5 – 1 – 1.5 – 2). So the pre-PI workex score of 5 is scaled to a maximum value of 10.

The combined score is then used to select candidates.

Take-aways:
1. Work-ex candidates have a strong edge as they receive around 4-8 marks generally based on relevance of their workex.
2. For freshers, it is extremely important to crack the Note and PI both so as to overcome the work-ex handicap.
3. High CAT score has no value as the difference it makes for 99.9 percentile to 99.5 percentile was just around 2 marks in CAT 2010. 2 marks can be easily covered anywhere by any candidate like in 10th, 12th, bachelors, Note or PI. So, in effect CAT score plays no role in selection if u get a call. It is as difficult for a 100 percentiler to get into IIMB as it is for a 99.5 percentiler.

  2. You will most probably get a call from IIMB for sure.
For C,calls just depend on your individual section scores and they shud be above 95.2...
IIMA has just declared their shortlists...criteria is 94 percentile in each section and Application Rating of >= 21

  5. IIMK's calls are totally dependent on class 10th and 12th performance. So, considering that you do not have that great a chance in K. But for all others you can easily get calls if you perform well in CAT. We also expect IIMK to change their policy next year and so you should not worry about that too. Good Luck.

Your acads are decent but the scores are normalised as per your Board and College. So,it is difficult to comment. Put your best effort in CAT and try to score a good percentile. Also, in IIMA and IIMC, acads do not play as big a role as in IIMB process. So, those options are always open.

    Best of Luck

  12. @Hari

Your acads are not at par with what IIMs generally want. But IIMC and some new IIMs which give more weightage to CAT score and the GD/PI process, are still something you can look for.

    Best of Luck
