National Manufacturing Policy



NATIONAL MANUFACTURING POLICY

seeks to achieve inclusive growth of the Indian economy by implementing cohesive policy measures for creating state-of-the art manufacturing facilities aimed at making India the next “manufacturing destination”. 

Through various policy instruments like
a)      creation of National Investment and Manufacturing Zones (NIMZs),
b)      rationalization / simplification of business regulations,
c)       provision of exit mechanisms for sick units,
d)      creation of financial and institutional mechanisms for technology development,
e)      implementing industrial training and skill up gradation measures,
f)       providing incentives for Small and medium enterprises (‘SMEs’)

NMP seeks to achieve the following broad objectives:
a)      Increase the share of manufacturing in GDP to 25% by 2022;

b)      Create 100 million additional jobs by 2022;
c)       Creation of appropriate skill sets among the rural migrant and urban poor to make growth inclusive;
d)      Increase domestic value addition and technological depth in manufacturing;
e)      Enhance global competitiveness of Indian manufacturing through appropriate policy support; and
f)       Ensure sustainability of growth, particularly with regard to the environment
g)      NMP has also outlined certain focus industries which primarily comprise –
a)      employment intensive industries;
b)      capital goods industry;
c)       industries with strategic significance (like aerospace; shipping; IT hardware and electronics; telecommunication equipment; defence equipment; and solar energy);
d)      industries where India enjoys a competitive advantage;
e)      SMEs and
f)       Public sector enterprises
